Amelia Island Museum of History
Located in the former Nassau County Jail, the Amelia Island Museum of History is a fascinating place to learn about Amelia Island’s history. Originally known as the “Fernandina Historical Museum”, the Amelia Island Museum of History moved into its current location in 1977. Besides its exhibits, the Amelia Island Museum of History also provides programs for all ages, and summer camps.
George Crady Bridge Fishing Pier State Park
Located on a former highway bridge, the George Crady Bridge Fishing Pier State Park offers visitors a spectacular view of the Nassau Sound and surrounding marshes. It is a popular fishery for both sport and recreational fishing. During the fall mullet run, tarpon gorge themselves in the waters of the Nassau Sound.
The George Crady Bridge, which spans the Nassau Sound, was originally a two-lane highway structure. However, in the 1990s, it was converted into a fishing pier. Since then, it has become one of the best locations to see the wildlife of the area. It is a favorite destination for coastal birdwatching, too.
There is a bait and tackle shop at the north end of the pier. It is closed during the winter months but opens in the spring and summer.
Fort Clinch State Park
Located on the Atlantic Coast of Florida, Fort Clinch State Park offers the opportunity to see hundreds of acres of coastal grasslands and dunes. The park is a popular destination for outdoor recreation, including fishing and hiking. There are several trails to choose from, as well as the chance to visit a historic fort.
